The Facts

  • On Sunday, at least five people were killed in a shooting at a condominium in the city of Vaughan, Canada, which is located just north of Toronto. A sixth person was reportedly in serious condition.

  • The suspect, who police confirmed was a 73-year-old male, was killed by police responding to an active shooter call. Constable Laura Nicolle said the shooting was the “most terrible call I’ve seen in my entire career.”

The Spin

Right narrative

This tragedy unfortunately will be used by Trudeau and left-leaning politicians to further erode the rights of Canadians to bear arms. Trudeau first said he wanted to just ban so-called “assault weapons,” but the scope is increasing. It's shameful that incidents like these are politicized to serve an agenda.

Left narrative

In the wake of a horrendous shooting, sadly conservatives are the ones politicizing the gun issue in Canada. The Trudeau administration is banning assault-style firearms, including AR-15s, which have no place in Canadian communities. Hunters and sport shooters will not be affected by these laws, which are designed to keep residents safe.
