    The Facts

    • White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said Pres. Biden is "confident" that his son Hunter didn't break the law. In recent months, a federal grand jury have reportedly been investigating details of his business dealings in China.

    • After initially dismissing the contents of Hunter Biden's hard drives as a Russian misinformation campaign in 2020, the Washington Post on Mar. 30 confirmed the files connecting Hunter with CEFC China Energy were genuine and that he, alongside his uncle James Biden, received $4.8M from the state-controlled energy conglomerate.

    The Spin

    Right narrative

There is no doubt that this was a disinformation campaign, but it wasn't Russian. The dangerous alliance of mainstream media and big tech together conspired to silence the story of Hunter's laptop along with evidence of Joe Biden's own corruption.

    Left narrative

This story is a long way from over, and when all is said and done it won't be a story about Hunter's laptop any more, but rather one of rampant corruption within the Trump wing of the GOP and a shameless effort to hold on to power whatever the cost to truth and American democracy.

    Establishment-critical narrative

The mainstream media was so busy fighting Russian misinformation that it forgets it has serious misinformation problems of its own. Mainstream media needs to acknowledge its own flaws if it's ever going to regain public trust.
