    The Facts

    • The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Mon. to discuss the ceasefire in Gaza, with several members raising concerns regarding the likelihood of renewed fighting. The Israeli ambassador blamed Palestinian Islamic Jihad for the confrontation, while the Palestinian ambassador pointed to the destruction the fighting caused.

    • A ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants has held since Sun., following three days of violent clashes. It was mediated by Egypt to stop the most intense outbreak of fighting in Gaza since an 11-day conflict in May 2021.

    The Spin

    Pro-Israel narrative

Operation Breaking Dawn was designed to neutralize concrete threats to Israel and civilians. Israeli forces took the initiative to prevent attacks planned by terrorists who rule the Gaza Strip with an iron fist. The IDF has proved once again the country's commitment to combat terrorist organizations.

    Pro-Palestine narrative

This latest attack on Gaza is just another example of the West's double standards. Israel struck Gaza without any provocation, and yet it has the nerve to label Palestinians who resist as terrorists. As the world watches Ukrainians fight a brutal Russian occupation, no one seems to care when Israel brutally attacks Gaza, which has been under siege for over 15 years.

    Nerd narrative

There's a 5% chance that Israel and Palestine will hold peace talks in 2022, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
