    The Facts

    • On Thu., federal judge Rebecca Grady Jennings temporarily blocked a law in Kentucky that effectively eliminated abortions after the only two clinics said they couldn't meet its requirements.

    • Kentucky's Republican-led legislature passed the law in March and then overrode Democratic Governor Andy Beshear's veto of the measure last week.

    The Spin

    Left narrative

While a win for the state of Kentucky, this is only the first step. More needs to be done to maintain women's rights to basic healthcare as the Mississippi law that attempts to overturn Roe v. Wade makes its way to SCOTUS.

    Right narrative

The decision to temporarily block the bill is due to issues enforcing the new regulations rather than the bill's constitutional merit. With several other states also standing up for the rights of the unborn in recent months, there is greater pressure to reverse the precedent of Roe v. Wade.

    Nerd narrative

There's a 62% chance that Roe v. Wade will be overturned before 2023, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
