    The Facts

    • William Barr is set to release a memoir about his time as AG during the Bush and then Trump administration.

    • The book reportedly attacks Trump's credibility, leadership, and temperament, and urges Republicans to find another nominee for the 2024 presidential race.

    The Spin

    Left narrative

Barr's assessment of Trump rings true, but he also enabled Trump when it suited his purposes, even weaponizing and politicizing the DOJ. When he resigned, Barr failed to oppose attempts to overturn the results of an election that he knew Trump had democratically lost.

    Pro-Trump narrative

Former President Trump enjoys overwhelming support among true Republicans and he remains the favorite to secure the 2024 nomination. Just this weekend he handily won the CPAC straw poll by an even higher margin than last year.

    Cynical narrative

AG Barr now joins the growing ranks of opportunists like John Bolton, Bob Woodward and Maggie Habberman who bided their time to profit from Trump's lies rather than speaking out against them in real time.

    Nerd narrative

Trump as a 27% chance of being elected President in 2024, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
