    The Facts

    • Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, signaled support on Mon. for nuclear negotiations with world powers to secure sanctions relief.

    • He has generally avoided speaking about the negotiations; his support for a deal is crucial for it to actually come to fruition, as he has the last say regarding all of Iran's state matters.

    The Spin

    Democratic narrative

This agreement is about America's national security interests. By ensuring that Iran doesn't have the capacity to develop nuclear weapons, the world will be a safer place, and the Middle East may be able to enter a long needed period of relative stability.

    Republican narrative

While the world is focused on the invasion of Ukraine, President Biden is working alongside Russia to enter back into this bad deal, which, in fact, increases Iran's nuclear capabilities and threatens America's national security – not the opposite.

    Pro-Russia narrative

Russia is one of the negotiating parties and its requests must be received and fairly considered. Iran's peaceful cooperation with all parties shouldn't be limited by sanctions imposed without UN approval. Russia and Iran have the right to trade, investment, and military-technical cooperation unhindered by the West.
