    The Facts

    • A US State Dept. spokesperson confirmed on Mon. that negotiations on restoring the Iran nuclear deal are set to resume this week in Doha, Qatar, in the latest bid to break a months-long stalemate.

    • This follows a joint declaration from top EU diplomat Josep Borrell and Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sat. stating that talks would resume soon.

    The Spin

    Republican narrative

In seeking to restore the nuclear deal, Biden is jeopardizing hard-earned US stability and national security, as well as the stability in the Middle East achieved under Trump. Further, because of his naivety regarding the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, he's also putting at risk good US relations with key regional allies.

    Democratic narrative

By labeling the IRGC a terrorist organization, Trump recklessly hampered negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement. Now Washington finds itself between a rock and a hard place, since without a compromise, the issue may soon no longer be one of a deal, but one of an Iranian nuclear bomb or even war.

    Nerd narrative

There's a 23% chance that the US will rejoin the Iran Nuclear Deal by 2024, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
