Italian parties in disarray as presidential vote limps on
One AmericaSep 14, 2021
Sergio Mattarella has agreed to serve a second term as Italian President, despite previously expressing a desire to leave the office
This comes as the Italian coalition government failed to agree on a potential successor after six days of voting.
This will bring much-needed stability and political direction to Italy, but has highlighted deep divisions within the government.
This will only provide short-term benefits, avoiding the collapse of Draghi's government. It's clearly a self-serving decision by a political elite united only in their desire to survive.
