    The Facts

    • After nearly a year-long investigation, the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 US Capitol riot will hold its first public hearing on Thurs. evening at 8pm EST.

    • Broadcast television networks have cleared their schedules to offer live coverage of the hearing, which will be the first of six public events currently scheduled for this month.

    The Spin

    Right narrative

This is nothing but partisan pageantry by the Democrats who want to recast their messaging for the midterms in the hopes of extending their hold on power indefinitely. Rest assured they won't ask any of the real pressing questions about that day, like why Pelosi delayed calling on the National Guard, or why the Capitol Police were understaffed.

    Left narrative

Obfuscation has gotten Trump and his allies this far, so there was never any doubt that GOP-friendly outlets would offer counter-programming and "safe spaces" for election lie conspiracists. But the bipartisan Jan. 6 Committee will present facts and evidence to the American people to help them decide who is ultimately responsible for the attack on our democracy.

    Nerd narrative

There's a 50% chance that 20 or more people will be charged by the US DOJ with seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan 6th Capital riots, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
