    The Facts

    • On Sun., Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts announced plans to hold a special session of the state legislature to pass a total abortion ban - without exceptions for rape or incest - if SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade.

    • This comes after a "trigger law" that would've automatically banned abortions if Roe v. Wade is overturned failed in Nebraska's legislature last month by 31-15, two votes short of the 33-vote threshold needed to overcome a filibuster.

    The Spin

    Right narrative

Ricketts is one of many GOP governors who are doing a stoic job of speaking up for the voiceless. Abortion is a violation of an unborn baby's fundamental right to live and it's the state's responsibility to protect them.

    Left narrative

Ricketts is allowing his personal, extreme beliefs to get in the way of what's right. This stance infringes on women's rights and risks dragging reproductive rights to draconian levels. Most Americans oppose the overturning of Roe - the people's will must be respected.

    Nerd narrative

There is a 94% chance that Roe V. Wade is formally overturned by July 31, 2028, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
