The Facts

  • On Tues., Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed Senate Bill 612, making all abortions illegal in the state except in the case of a medical emergency.

  • The legislation will make performing an abortion punishable by up to 10 yrs in prison and a fine of $100k, but will not penalize the mother.

The Spin

Left narrative

This is the latest in a string of radical anti-abortion laws that seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. The new legislation blatantly violates Roe, and criminalizes any doctor who stands up for women's rights. The ban will never hold up and is nothing more than a Hail Mary attempt to bring down Roe.

Right narrative

Oklahoma has reached a crisis point on the issue of abortion. Abortions violate an unborn baby's fundamental right to live, and it's the state's responsibility to protect them. The recent bans in Oklahoma will bring the state one step closer to being a safe haven for the unborn.

Nerd narrative

According to the Metaculus prediction community, there is a 60% chance that Roe v. Wade will be overturned before 2023.
