Former president Trump has given Mehmet Oz his "complete and total endorsement" in the tightly contested PA Republican Senate primary.
Trump, in a published statement and reiterated during a rally in NC, cited several factors for his endorsement, including Oz's 18 years as host of the "Dr. Oz Show" on television.
The Spin
Democratic narrative
Trump's reasons for endorsing Oz are all terrible, but it's not surprising to see these two grifting television stars joining forces. The fact that Trump has alienated his base by supporting Oz is even better for the Democrats.
Pro-Trump narrative
Never underestimate Trump! He's proven time and again that he knows winners. Even if Dr. Oz isn't a "dyed-in-the-wool conservative," he can win a general election and Republicans need to do anything to take the Senate.
Conservative narrative
This is not a very wise endorsement by Trump. The only explanation is that he's been misled - otherwise he'd never endorse someone who has flip flopped on being pro-life, has promoted a transgendered lifestyle for children, and held several other positions contrary to conservative values.
