On Monday, New York federal Judge Glenn Suddaby temporarily suspended features of the state's newest gun restrictions, allowing six gun advocates to continue their lawsuit challenging the law's constitutionality.
Judge Suddaby suspended the parts of the Concealed Carry Improvement Act — which took effect on Sept. 1 — mandating that gun license applicants demonstrate "good moral character" and disclose both the handles of their social media accounts and the contact details of those with whom they live.
This dangerous ruling undermines modest and common-sense gun restrictions in New York. The newly passed prevention measures are intended to keep communities safe — Suddaby's misinterpretation of the law ignores the realities of the threat of gun violence in New York today.
This is a win for liberty and a loss for tyranny. Left-wing policies attempting to disarm state citizens are only escalating the dangers everyday New Yorkers face during a surge in crime. Gun sales increase because of crime, not the other way around, and the sooner we understand this and tackle the underlying cause of violence, the safer America will be.
