The Facts

  • On Thursday, US Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) endorsed Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the race for Michigan's newly drawn 7th District, adding that she will campaign for Slotkin in the Lansing area next Tuesday.

  • Slotkin is vying for re-election against Republican Tom Barrett, who was among 11 members of the Michigan state Senate to pen a letter to Congress on Jan. 5, 2021, asking it to investigate claims of "fraud and irregularities" surrounding the 2020 presidential election.

The Spin

Republican narrative

It should come as no surprise that Cheney has turned on the Republican Party and endorsed Slotkin, as they both follow the same warmongering agenda that will only lead to more senseless entanglement in foreign wars. Barrett, meanwhile, puts America's troops and their families first.

Democratic narrative

As the US faces threats at home and abroad, Cheney is putting her country first and supporting serious people regardless of their party. Despite not agreeing with Slotkin on every issue, she knows that the Democratic candidate is committed to working hard and putting the country above political divide.

Nerd narrative

There's a 81% chance that Republicans will win control of the US House of Representatives in 2022, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
