The Facts

On Wednesday, Darrell Brooks was sentenced to the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole for driving his SUV into a Waukesha, Wis., Christmas parade last year, killing six and injuring many others.

The sentence comes on 76 charges, including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide and 61 counts of reckless endangerment.

Before the sentence, Brooks made a two-hour statement in which he apologized for his actions and said he had repented to God. Several of his relatives also spoke to apologize to the victims and reiterate Brooks' claims of mental illness.

Judge Dorow dismissed these claims, noting that four psychologists had diagnosed him with anti-social personality disorder but that "he understands the difference between right and wrong, and he simply chooses to ignore his conscience."
