    • At last nine people, including four minors, were injured on Memorial Day in a shooting on the Hollywood, Fla., Oceanfront Broadwalk. All the victims were in stable condition on Tuesday morning.[1]
    • They were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital after receiving aid at the scene. One person was in surgery late Monday, according to the Hollywood Police Dept. spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi.[2]
    • The department preliminarily announced that the shooting, which took place around 6:30 p.m. local time, started with an altercation between two groups that escalated with shots being fired.[3]
    • Two people have been arrested on firearms charges in connection with the incident but they have not been identified as the shooters, while police seek to identify three other people believed to be involved.[4]
    • Footage posted online showed the crowd running away from the danger and seeking cover as the gunfire erupted, while other videos showed emergency services attending to the wounded along the sand.[5]
    • Hollywood Beach is a popular destination for tourists — located about 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami — which saw an increase in visitors Monday due to Memorial Day.[6]

    Left narrative

There is seemingly no end to the string of mass shootings in the US, which has witnessed more than 250 this year alone. And no place seems to be off limits, as this beachside venue has joined schools, grocery stores, and other public places that have been the site of violence because of unfettered access to guns around much of the country. Something must be done to reduce the availability of weapons.

    Right narrative

This unfortunate incident has nothing to do with Second Amendment rights, as it was the result of an altercation between two groups of people, some of whom were criminals with no respect for life or for the bystanders they injured. This calls for a crackdown on criminals, not on the lawful possession of guns by responsible citizens.

    Nerd narrative

There's a 0.8% chance that the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution will be amended or repealed before 2025, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
