The Facts

  • Pres. Joe Biden and former Pres. Donald Trump will each make separate visits to the Southern border on Thursday, as both presidential candidates make their pitch on the US migrant crisis.

  • The White House announced Monday that Biden will travel to Brownsville, Texas, and hold meetings with border agents. Thursday's visit will be Biden's second trip to the border as US president.

The Spin

Republican narrative

For three years Pres. Biden has worked to undermine all progress Trump had made towards securing the border, and now he is trying to salvage the mess he single-handedly created. Democrats and their friends in the corporate media have been slandering Trump for nearly a decade over his position on border security, and now all of America is paying the price for the left's open borders agenda. Trump has been vindicated for prioritizing border security, and the Americans know that he is the only one who can clean up Biden's disaster.

Democratic narrative

Donald Trump's campaign is irate that Pres. Biden is taking action, advocating for a compassionate and common-sense solution to the Southern border situation. A bipartisan group of Senators crafted a bill that would allow Biden to take swift action if illegal crossings reached an untenable level. Yet, the GOP killed the legislation so as to help Trump score political points. Biden, Congressional Democrats, and some reasonable Republicans are looking for solutions to the migrant problem, while Trump and his cronies just keep complaining.

Nerd narrative

There's a 50% chance that Pres. Biden will issue an executive order on immigration before the State of the Union on March 7, 2024, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
