The Spin

Left narrative

It's easy to see why Trump wants to destroy the world's number one news source and a global standard-bearer for courageous journalism. The BBC stands for truth, balance and public service — values that threaten those who thrive on division. The corporation has held its hands up and acknowledged the mistake it made — now is not the time to succumb to right-wing political pressure and tear down a core pillar of civic democracy.

Right narrative

The BBC's systematic pattern of deceptive editing against Trump proves institutional bias runs deep at the corporation. Two separate programs doctored the same Jan. 6 speech to falsely portray Trump as inciting violence, splicing statements made an hour apart to create fabricated quotes. The BBC cannot be forgiven for this betrayal of its impartiality rules, with the whole organisation in need of radical reform.
