While it's undeniable that Moussa Kadri was wrong to attack someone with a knife, one should not ignore that his actions were in response to aggressive and premeditated Islamophobic provocations. Quran-burning in public spaces is not a legitimate protest, but a calculated act designed to incite hatred against Muslims and social disorder.

The stark contrast between these two cases exposes that the U.K. indeed has a two-tier justice system where victims of physical violence may face harsher punishment than their attackers as long as they are, respectively, Islam's critics and Muslims. This is meant to be a secular, democratic country, but the English courts are enforcing — and allowing any Muslim to enforce — Islamic blasphemy laws.
