The Spin

Right narrative

Support for youth gender medicine has become a dogma, and is not based on the evidence available. There is a dearth of high-quality studies on the efficacy and safety of these treatments, which have life-long consequences and can, in many cases, be irreversible. The Supreme Court took a measured and thoughtful approach that protected minors and addressed the very real controversy regarding these procedures.

Left narrative

This is a ruling that will live in infamy, as the court produces a weak rationalization of sex discrimination against transgender youth. This ruling effectively allows states to pass discriminatory laws as long as they can assert that they have a non-discriminatory reason to do so, eviscerating the protections that vulnerable minorities, such as trans youth, desperately need. Trans kids deserve dignity, not concern-trolling from the bench.
