The Spin

Republican narrative

Trump's tariffs are essential for protecting American workers and restoring economic sovereignty after decades of unfair trade practices. The U.S. has been systematically exploited, with a $1.2 trillion trade deficit, while maintaining one of the world's lowest tariff rates at 3.3%, compared to Brazil's 11.2% and India's 17%. These reciprocal tariffs will rebuild manufacturing, create jobs and finally make other countries treat America fairly.

Democratic narrative

The Senate's bipartisan rejection of Trump's reckless tariffs shows even Republicans recognize these policies hurt American consumers and businesses. Four GOP senators joined Democrats because tariffs create supply chain chaos, damage global relationships and increase costs for families. This is a victory for the Constitution and for the principles of coequal branches of government and the separation of powers.
