The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

In this meeting, President Trump will put American interests at the heart of any conversation regarding U.S.-China relations. Through diplomacy, the president will aim to reach an agreement with his Chinese counterpart on the issues of critical national importance, such as soybeans, the fentanyl crisis, rare earth minerals and nuclear weapons.

Pro-China narrative

President Xi is correct in his assertion that the only way to resolve the longstanding issues between China and the U.S. is through open and honest dialogue and cooperation. As a responsible power, China has consistently opposed trade barriers and supply chain decoupling, and will push for healthier and more sustainable trading relations between the two countries.
