The Spin

Republican narrative

The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which is considered an unofficial militia of the Maduro regime, poses a serious national security threat and has been designated as a terrorist organization. This judge is dangerously tying the Trump administration's hands as it looks to quickly remove these criminals and make America safe again. This ruling must be reversed on appeal.

Democratic narrative

This ruling correctly recognizes that wartime powers cannot be invoked during peacetime. The president cannot unilaterally declare an invasion exists to bypass due process rights. Many individuals were wrongfully targeted without evidence of gang affiliation and the administration must be stopped from continuing this illegal process.
