The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

Venezuela poses a genuine national and regional security threat — one that the U.S. can no longer ignore. Maduro is the head of narco-terrorist enterprise who has rigged elections to usurp power not once but twice. That his illegitimate government is claiming U.S. crackdowns on drug cartels in international waters seek to force regime change only confirms its undemocratic nature.

Establishment-critical narrative

Maduro is indeed a dictator, but the U.S. must avoid escalating tensions into a regime-change operation. Venezuela poses no actual threat to the U.S. as the country is not a narco-state, but rather a place where rogue actors profit from drug trafficking. A state collapse there would be a disaster with regional consequences, and would benefit China only.

Pro-Maduro narrative

It's unacceptable that the U.S. continues with its warmongering actions and rhetoric with regard to Venezuela, summarily executing 21 unarmed civilians in the Caribbean so far and promoting a disinformation campaign to smear the entire Venezuelan people to justify an armed attack against Venezuela in the short term.
