Valencia president Carlos Mazón resigns over botched handling of deadly floods
Guardian1 day
While Mazón’s resignation is a step in the right direction, the president was only a symptom of a much more fundamental problem: Spain’s PP-VOX coalition, whose climate denialist stance failed catastrophically during deadly floods. Only fresh elections to oust these incompetents can restore confidence in Valencia’s government.
Mazón’s poorly timed resignation has accidentally saved Prime Minister Sánchez from the backlash of two devastating corruption scandals involving the attorney general and former transport minister. The conservative opposition has bungled a golden opportunity to expose the government’s criminality and handed socialist Sánchez political relief.
