A united Canada is a stronger country, and splintering now only helps Trump and the folks down south who'd love to pick up the pieces. Alberta's frustrations are legitimate, but breaking up the country is a reckless bluff that buys years of division and zero certainty. Real clout comes from a partnership that treats Alberta's energy as a national asset, not from walking away.
More autonomy on immigration and other issues is achievable without blowing up the country. The patient path inside Confederation — voting Option 1 and Yes to the rest — is the best route to needed reforms. Giving up hope in Canada after significant progress on economic, provincial-rights and anti-woke issues under Carney, following the disastrous Trudeau era, would be the real mistake.
Smith's bootlicking won't buy Alberta anything. Carney has already stabbed her in the back by urging a No vote on provincial questions, proving Ottawa cannot be trusted to play fair. Option 2 is the only way to send a strong message, force Ottawa to the negotiating table from a position of strength and secure real leverage before Alberta gets sold out by the feds yet again.
