The Facts
- Democrats have won control of the House in Tuesday's midterm elections, with NBC News estimating they will take about 248 seats, well beyond the 218 needed for a majority. Newsmax projected the chamber for Democrats at 9:09 p.m. ET.
- Democrats have also flipped Republican-held Senate seats in North Carolina, Texas, Iowa, Ohio and South Carolina so far. Contests in Alaska, Maine and Michigan remain uncalled.
- Pediatrician Annie Andrews became the first Democrat to win a South Carolina Senate seat since 1998, defeating Republican Darline Graham, who was appointed after her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, died. President Donald Trump carried the state by 18 points in 2024.

The Spin
Republican narrative
This was self-inflicted, not some law of midterm gravity. A majority of Republicans chose infighting over delivering, and voters never reward that. The one consolation is that two years of Democratic overreach will make winning back the White House in 2028 a whole lot easier.
Democratic narrative
Flipping the House means unchecked power finally hits a brake. Real oversight and real accountability are back on the table, and that is exactly what voters asked for. Years of grinding organizing, from statehouses to Congress, built this win, and the results speak loudly.
