Version 7.18.2
Slashing cohesion and farming funding guts the policies Europeans actually feel in daily life. Those programs drive convergence between regions, strengthen the single market and keep rural and less-developed areas from falling further behind. Cutting those budgets further while the overall envelope grows is an indefensible way to fund new priorities.
A budget swelling is unrealistic when six net contributors already finance nearly 40% of member state contributions. Discipline that must be applied to national budgets applies in Brussels too, with money flowing to defense, competitiveness, innovation and migration rather than shielding legacy programs. New borrowing is no substitute for structural reform.
