FBI Arrests Woman Accused of Allegedly Spying on Taiwan Leader's Son

The Facts
- The FBI arrested Wanying "Heather" Zhang, 34, of Irvine, California, at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday as she prepared to board a flight to Shanghai, charging her with allegedly acting as an unregistered agent of the Chinese government.
- A federal complaint alleges that Zhang traveled to Seattle in 2025 at the direction of Chinese officials and sent them photos, video and license plate information relating to a close relative of a Taiwanese government official.
- The FBI identified the target of the surveillance as a son of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te. Law enforcement sources told CBS News he is Ting-Yu Lai, an engineer in his 30s who works for the Dutch electronics firm Philips.
