GM's energy ambitions look bold on paper but rest on shaky ground. Sodium-ion technology won't hit mass production until 2028 and Chinese firms already dominate the space at scale. U.S. utilities have run only small pilot projects on vehicle-to-grid tech, and persuading regulators to treat privately owned cars as dependable grid capacity could take years.
