Version 7.18.2
Taxing a shop for the building it occupies while online sellers bank fatter margins with barely a storefront is a rotten deal for town centers. Ensuring tax is paid on remote sales, with the funds funneled straight into lower business rates, would align the tax burden with where sales actually happen, thereby saving the high street from the misery of boarded-up storefronts.
Slapping a new tax on parcels saves no one on the high street. Instead, the cost lands squarely on households making orders online as retail bosses pass the charges down the line, squeezing already struggling working families. A government happy to shovel billions elsewhere has no business charging a penalty for a delivery to the front door.
