Years of reckless spending have wrecked France's public accounts, and pretending otherwise only guarantees a harsher reckoning down the line. The only serious way to stop this slide is through strong savings targets and a constitutional golden rule before creditors dictate the terms. Waiting merely means accepting cuts that are both socially unjust and economically suicidal.
Le Pen's fantasy economics, based on invented savings and growth forecasts, is a sales pitch, not a serious economic plan. Her cuts would violate treaty obligations and don't even add up under scrutiny — they would leave farmers, patients and retirees holding the national bill. This proposed "golden rule" saves nothing when it rests on counterfeit numbers.
With this so-called "counter budget," National Rally has exposed itself, like Macron, as no friend of the working class. Cuts of this magnitude would enforce austerity that even the current government never dreamed possible, making ordinary people's lives even more difficult. This tact would paralyze the economy and make the country's debt crisis infinitely worse.
