The Facts

  • Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans on Tuesday, following an alleged altercation at a Royal Street business during the city's Mardi Gras celebrations, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
  • In a statement to multiple media outlets, the NOPD explained that officers were called to the scene at roughly 12:45 a.m. (local time), where LaBeouf allegedly attacked one individual repeatedly with "closed fists" and punched another on the nose after being removed from an establishment.
  • LaBeouf was subsequently taken to a hospital to treat multiple unspecified injuries before being arrested and charged by the police with two counts of simple battery upon his release.

The Spin

Narrative A

Shia LaBeouf's struggles stem from his deep personal pain and a total absence of any support. The demons he had long battled with resurfaced, and he lost the stability that kept him on track. This charismatic and passionate actor, therefore, needs immediate help and compassion, not further condemnation.

Narrative B

Tuesday's episode is the latest in a long pattern of violence and aggression that has made LaBeouf toxic to the point of being untouchable by Hollywood. By indulging in this indefensible behavior, LaBeouf has not only put himself, yet again, on the wrong side of the law, but has also hammered the last nail in the coffin for his acting career.
