Has pregnancy brain finally been proven real, or is a mouse circuit being mistaken for settled human biology?

The Spin

Narrative A

Pregnancy brain finally has a real biological origin, and dismissing it as a myth should end now. A specific hypothalamus-to-hippocampus circuit gets hijacked by sustained high estrogen, and switching that pathway off restored memory, while women in late pregnancy showed the same estrogen-linked memory dips. That is validation for what mothers have described for generations.

Narrative B

The hard proof here lives in mice, not humans. The circuit was never manipulated or even measured in pregnant women, and the human side rests on 70 participants plus self-reported fogginess rather than objective causal testing. A promising hypothesis deserves careful follow-up, not headlines treating a rodent pathway as settled human biology.
