This tragedy underscores the urgent need to take children’s distress seriously before it reaches a crisis point. Families need timely access to mental-health support — and the confidence to seek help without shame — rather than sympathy only after lives have been lost. Condemning violence is necessary, but a response focused primarily on blame risks overlooking opportunities to prevent future incidents.
With the cause still unknown, it's imperative that the public avoid speculation. This attack must not be prematurely spun into a story about failed mental-health care without evidence that such failures played a role. The immediate priority is to establish what happened, protect the school community and secure justice for the victims.
