Trump Seeks to Turn Florida Golf Club Into New Camp David
Is this a selfless gift by Trump or self-dealing that enriches his private club?

The Facts
- U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed reports that he wants to convert his West Palm Beach golf club into a presidential retreat modeled on Camp David. Under the plan, part of the property would go to the federal government, while the rest would stay a private course.
- Palm Beach County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo said that the county is seriously considering the proposal and officials are in contact with the General Services Administration (GSA) to select a parcel. Trump's company would continue making lease payments.
- In a letter sent to county commissioners last month, attorney Harvey Oyer asked that a portion of the county-owned land be conveyed to the federal government and said that Trump would pay to build a presidential residence. The course opened in 1999.

Pro-Trump narrative
Offering up prime private property so future presidents get a secure, world-class retreat is about as selfless as it gets. The security case stands on its own. This spot is locked down tight and minutes from an airport. Turning down a gift like this would be a real waste.
Anti-Trump narrative
This amounts to a permanent revenue stream propped up by the federal government. Every summit and comped membership would funnel paying customers to a private club, which is textbook self-dealing by Trump. With gas, groceries and health care premiums climbing, the president should have better things to work on.
