Following last weekend's surprise Hamas attack, Israel formed an emergency unity government, announced a "total" blockade of Gaza,and warned the siege wouldn't be lifted until all Israeli hostages are freed,as it claimed to have regained control of all the towns bordering the Gaza Strip.Meanwhile, the bodies of dozens of Israeli civilians and Hamas fighters were found at a kibbutz in Israel,Human Rights Watch accused Tel Aviv of using white phosphorus munitions in Gaza and Lebanon,and Israel warned over 1M civilians to evacuate northern Gaza,as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a rare address to the nation on Shabbat.Elsewhere, Syria claimed that Israel struck its Damascus and Aleppo airports,at least 29 people were killed in a strike on a refugee camp in Myanmar,France began withdrawing troops from Niger,and a Congressional report warned that the US must prepare for simultaneous wars with China and Russia.

Russia-Ukraine

In an overnight attack on Monday, Russia launched 36 drone strikes from Crimea, with Ukraine claiming to have shot down 27 of the unmanned aerial vehicles.These efforts continued throughout the week as Russia targeted the city of Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region and reportedly took around 1.7 square miles of territory.On Wednesday, the US approved an additional $200M of military aid to Ukraine, but National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned that Washington is nearing its limit on how much more can be given.Meanwhile, On Friday, the US accused North Korea of having sent 1K containers of military arms to Russia between Sept. 7 and Oct. 1.

World Politics

A delegation of US senators met with China's Xi Jinping,the Taliban said it would attend China's Belt and Road Forum,Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian Pres. Ebrahim Raisi spoke for the first time since restoring ties,and Germany and France held a retreat to strengthen their diplomatic relations.Meanwhile, former Haitian Sen. Joseph Joel John pleaded guilty for his role in the assassination of Pres. Jovenel Moïse,pro-democracy protests intensified in Guatemala,and Poland's opposition leader Donald Tusk appealed to female voters as Poles began voting on Sunday.In other news, the US and Qatar agreed to prevent Tehran from accessing the $6B in Iranian funds that were unblocked as part of a prisoner swap,the US reportedly considered imposing AI chip sanctions on Chinese companies located overseas,Poland and the Czech Republic extended temporary border controls with Slovakia,and the UK's top court heard arguments on the government's plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda.
