Lisa Ann Murkowski is an American attorney and politician who has served as Alaska’s senior U.S. Senator since her appointment in December 2002—becoming the first Alaskan-born member of Congress and the first woman to represent Alaska in the Senate. A moderate Republican known for her bipartisan approach, she chairs the Senate Indian Affairs Committee as of January 2025 and notably won reelection in 2010 as a write‑in candidate after losing the primary.
