While Poilievre did lose his own seat in this year's unfortunate election, there has been no call for him to step down as leader, a testament to the trust and respect he commands within his party. Besides almost taking back the government, Poilievre's most important achievement was gaining huge support among the future electorate: youth and blue-collar voters.

While this byelection is a lucky turn of events for Poilievre, that doesn't mean he should remain in Parliament, let alone as party leader. Under Poilievre's direction, the Conservatives fumbled a 30% lead, thus showing their ideas — which are basically Poilievre's ideas — to be the opposite of what Canadians want. Poilievre is good at striking blows in the media and catering to his base, but he doesn't realize that he needs the support of all Canadians to become prime minister.
