The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

The Ajax fighting vehicles are at the cutting edge of military technology and capability. This platform will be the beating heart of the army, providing it with the latest in lethality, survivability, reliability and mobility. With built-in future-proofing for quick and easy upgrades, the Ajax family will ensure that Britain's military remains capable of competing at the highest level.

Left narrative

Vastly expansive and massively wasteful, Ajax represents the utter futility of Britain's increased defense spending, despite already ranking fifth globally in military expenditure. This commitment will not make the U.K. safer but only exacerbate tensions abroad while depriving vital services at home, such as healthcare, education and climate action, of desperately needed funding.

Right Establishment-Critical Narrative

The Ajax debacle is totemic of the challenges facing British defence procurement. Despite being many years late and costing billions of pounds, the British Army still has precious little to show for its investment. While increasing defence spending is vital in these challenging times, the government must ensure the money is well spent, rather than wasted on fruitless projects.
