The Spin

Government-critical narrative

The buried King report exposes a deliberate cover-up of systemic abuse that continues to endanger women's lives, as evidenced by tragic cases like Jaysley Beck's suicide after reporting sexual assault. Despite promises of reform, the military still allows perpetrators to police themselves through courts martials with 77% acquittal rates for rape cases, while victims face retaliation and career destruction. Real change requires civilian oversight and an end to the military's self-regulation of sexual crimes.

Pro-government narrative

The Army has made significant progress since 2022 with zero-tolerance policies and structural reforms addressing the cultural issues in the King report. Independent investigation units, the Teamwork campaign and targeted mentorship programs aim to protect women and boost accountability. While challenges remain, initiatives in leadership development, women’s health and enhanced career support make today one of the safest and most supportive periods for women in the Army.
