This report and the subsequent political backlash have taken Canada's policies completely out of context. Just as President Donald Trump has done for companies in his country, Mark Carney has created a grace period for Canadian businesses to prepare for counter-tariffs. While Carney hopes for an end to hostilities soon, he will fight back as long as Trump retains his authoritarian agenda.
None of this is blown out of proportion. Mark Carney campaigned on a promise to counter Trump's massive tariffs, only to quietly pull back once in office. After just a couple of months of Carney in power, Canadian unemployment is up, particularly in tariff-hit sectors like manufacturing and retail. Carney promised to be a patriotic leader, but he is clearly not.
