The Secret Service desperately needs massive expansion and reform to handle the surge in political violence threatening America's leaders. Current leadership was weakened through lowered standards and misguided policies that compromise security effectiveness during the Biden administration. Tripling the Secret Service's size represents the most critical national security investment possible given the escalating threats against Trump.
Threats like this are inexcusable, but the Trump administration must address the underlying problems that have fostered an environment where such actions occur. The United States is currently facing crises in mental health, affordability and housing — all of which likely played a role in Schneider's alleged crime. The same level of attention and resources devoted to protecting public officials should also be invested in addressing these fundamental problems and building a healthier, more stable society
