The execution of Mohsen Langarneshin demonstrates Iran’s resolve in countering foreign espionage. Langarneshin not only betrayed his country but also actively supported terrorist efforts against Iranian citizens and Iran’s national security interests, assassinating a military hero in the process. Contrary to what Western voices may claim, the judicial process was thorough, with extensive evidence and the defendant's confession supporting his conviction.
Mohsen Langarneshin’s death was nothing short of state-sanctioned murder. Despite whatever the Iranian judiciary claims, Iran has a long history of extracting false confessions based on torture, and this case was no different. Tragically, Langarnshein’s murder is one of at least 350 in Iran this year. Accordingly, the international community must do more to raise the cost of these extrajudicial killings to put an end to the bloodshed.
