The Spin

Democratic narrative

This ruling was desperately needed as Trump continues to defy the law and basic human rights. Federal agents in Chicago chase cars through Latino neighborhoods and deploy tear gas without warning. Arbitrary arrests, including those of journalists and innocent teenagers, show DHS's reckless tactics. Judge Ellis's body cam order and limits on riot tactics curb this authoritarian abuse, protecting protesters, clergy and press.

Republican narrative

This ruling is misguided as anti-ICE mobs in Chicago, backed in an official capacity by Governor Pritzker, violently resist lawful immigration enforcement. Illegal Venezuelans purposely rammed a Border Patrol SUV, inciting a hostile crowd that endangered agents, clearly necessitating tear gas. One part of this ruling that might be good is the body camera requirement, which will show the world what these agents face every day.
