Brueckner is a convicted pedophile and sex offender who poses a threat to society as he is now walking free. Regarding McCann's disappearance, there's a compelling case against him; he was in Praia da Luz at the time of the incident and phone records place him near the scene. It would only be due diligence to extradite him to the U.K. in order to thoroughly investigate his potential involvement.
The case against Brueckner remains fundamentally weak, built on circumstantial evidence and media speculation rather than concrete proof — assumptions of guilt can crumble under proper legal scrutiny. Without direct evidence linking him to Madeleine's disappearance, the presumption of innocence must prevail.
Ongoing press concerning McCann's disappearance is indicative of a distorted national obsession. As a white, middle class child, her disappearance has garnered disproportionate attention and resource, despite the fact that members of marginalized communities are more likely to disappear. One missing child is not more important than others.
