Christian Brueckner, the German national identified as the prime suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann, was released from a prison in northern Germany on Wednesday after serving a seven-year sentence for raping an elderly woman in Portugal in 2005.

He has been put under judicial supervision, which includes wearing an ankle tag for five years and monthly meetings with a probation officer. He will also have to surrender his passport and seek court approval to change his domicile or temporary residence.
