The Spin

Left narrative

This policy dangerously feeds far-right narratives linking crime to ethnicity and immigration. Rather than providing transparency, this move encourages prejudice before legal judgments and could lead to targeted violence from extremist thugs. The British state should be doing more to protect marginalized groups instead of helping normalize dangerous stereotypes.

Right narrative

After years of race-based cover-ups, new police guidance is welcome but inadequate. Selective transparency has bred justified suspicion, while authorities fuel anger and violence by withholding vital information. As long as this guidance is discretionary rather than mandatory, police will continue to protect foreign criminals over the British public.
