Starmer and Macron's migrant deal is performative cruelty disguised as pragmatism. This "one in, one out" scheme won't deter desperate people, but will legitimize treating refugees as bargaining chips. Real solutions require expanding safe routes and tackling the root causes to those fleeing the country, not pandering to hateful narratives that strengthen those on the populist right, like Farage and Le Pen.
Right narrative
This deal is weak theater that changes nothing while illegal crossings surge and taxpayers fund hotel stays for criminals. Real action means leaving the ECHR, putting a stop to endless appeals, and ensuring mass deportations. Unfortunately, the politicians of today lack the spine for tough solutions that actually protect national sovereignty and domestic security.
