Ukraine must stand firm against territorial concessions to achieve lasting peace. Zelenskyy's rejection of land swaps shows necessary resolve — giving up Crimea or eastern regions would reward Russian aggression and set dangerous precedents. True peace requires Russia's complete withdrawal from the occupied territories.
Russia recognizes Zelenskyy as the de facto head of Ukraine's regime. The Kremlin is open to meeting him in that role, but his legitimacy to sign binding agreements or truces is questionable. Moreover, any future Ukrainian security guarantees must reflect a balanced consensus that includes Russian interests. Kyiv cannot be allowed to prevail in the conflict.
Diplomatic flexibility offers the only realistic path to ending this devastating conflict. Trump's pragmatic approach, recognizing territorial realities, could stop the senseless killing and bring stability. Continued fighting over impossible territorial goals prolongs Ukrainian suffering unnecessarily.
