    The Facts

    • A half-ton World War II bomb was discovered on Friday during maintenance work around 4:00 am local time near the tracks in Saint-Denis, approximately 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) north of Paris's Gare du Nord station.
    • The bomb, containing 200 kilograms (441 pounds) of explosives, was found two meters (6.6 feet) deep in the ground in an area known for potential World War II debris.
    • French authorities established a 500-meter (1,640-foot) security perimeter around the bomb site, evacuated nearby buildings with windows facing the device, and closed portions of the A1 highway and Paris ring road as bomb disposal experts successfully neutralized the threat.
